A simple piece - steps
I accidentally overwrote my incredible prose for this step-by-step of a black-and-white illo, but you'll get the idea from the pictures alone, I hope! (sorry!)

Wow this is great! I'm just reading 'The Shadow over Innsmouth' by Lovecraft at the moment, and this picture really echoes the H.P.L vibe nicely. Top stuff.
